Abstract

Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Halogeno(methyl)arsenic(V) Cations: [(CH 3 ) 2 AsI 2 ]⊕ [AsF 6 ]⊖, [CH 3 AsI 3 ]⊕ [AsF 6 ]⊖ and [(CH 3 ) 2 AsF 2 ]⊕ [AsF 6 ]⊖ The two new iodo(methyl)arsenic(V) hexafluoroarsenates [(CH 3 ) 2 AsI 2 ]⊕ [AsF 6 ]⊖ ( 1 ) and [CH 3 AsI 3 ]⊕ [AsF 6 ]⊖ ( 2 ) have been prepared by direct oxidation of (CH 3 ) 2 AsI or CH 3 AsI 2 with IF in the presence of AsF 5 . (CH 3 ) 2 AsF reacts quantitatively with F 2 and AsF 5 to yield [(CH 3 ) 2 AsF 2 ]⊕ [AsF 6 ]⊖ ( 3 ). The reaction of 3 with CsF leads to the neutral compound (CH 3 ) 2 AsF 3 ( 4 ) and CsAsF 6 .
