CORE-HOLE SCREENING IN LIGHT RARE-EARTH INSULATING COMPOUNDS

Abstract

We present new LIII absorption results in insulating light Race Earth compounds. We show that for formally tetravalent compounds (Ce(OH)4, CeO2...) LIII and 3d photoemission data are consistent provided possible conduction state band structure effects and a recently suggested interaction mechanism between the photoexcited and 4f electrons are taken into account. In opposition, this conclusion does not hold for compounds like La(OH)3.
