Abstract

Abstract A novel cross‐plate monopole antenna formed by two orthogonal step‐shaped metal plates is presented. The antenna occupies a compact cross‐sectional area and yet provides a wide operating bandwidth (lower‐to‐upper‐edge frequency ratio larger than 1:6) with omnidirectional or near‐omnidirectional radiation patterns. Details of the proposed antenna are described, and a prototype is constructed and studied. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
