Selective adsorption of Mn(II) ions using Mn(II) ion imprinted silica modified by di(2-picolyl)amine

Abstract

A selective adsorption material of Mn(II) ion was obtained using Mn(II) ion imprinted silica modified by di(2-picolyl)amine (dpa). The synthesized material (silica@dpa) was applied as separation of Mn(II) ions using batch modes. The adsorption conditions of Mn(II) ions such as the effect of pH, shaking time, foreign ions and adsorbent amount were investigated and optimized. The synthesized materials exhibited selective adsorption of manganese(II) ions at pH 6. The adsorption behavior of silica@dpa was described by a Langmuir model, and the maximum adsorption capacity is 0.413 mol g"1. Then, Mn(II) ion imprinted silica, which was modified by dpa, could be applied as a reusable selective adsorbent to the separation of Mn(II) ions from other ions in water samples.
