CPW-fed double triangular slot antenna for biomedical applications

Abstract

In the paper, the design of a coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed double triangular ring slot antenna is studied. The antenna was designed for a wireless body centric communication between a health monitor device and a sensor. The communication link is designed to operate in the ISM frequency band 5.725 GHz to 5.875 GHz (ITU-R 5.138, 5.150 and 5.280). The presented study shows properties of the antenna in various distances from human body models. Attention is turned to impedance matching and radiation pattern of the antenna. The antenna was designed considering a single-layer technology and the Arlon 25N substrate. The prototype of the antenna was fed by a 50 Ω coaxial cable.
