Abstract

In this work, solid biopolymer electrolytes (SBEs) based on carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) doped with adipic acid (AA) has been prepared by dual solvent solution casting technique. The highest room temperature ionic conductivity is 6.12 x 10-7 S cm-1 for 5 wt. % AA SBE. The temperaturedependent ionic conductivity of SBE films followed Arrhenius behaviour where R 2 ~1. In this system, the frequency dependent of dielectric, modulus and tangent study at various temperature and frequencies was observed to be non-Debye type. That the activation energy of relaxation is lower than the activation energy of conduction implies that the charge carrier has to overcome the higher energy barrier during conducting.
