Interdependencia económica : perspectivas desde América Latina

Abstract

The concept of interdependence is being revalued, both in Latin America and in other regions of the world, by governments and academic circles. In addition, certain conceptions of economic development that are original to the region, such as structuralism and dependency, are also being revised. Both aspects are discussed in this paper. The main purpose of this work is to make a broad presentation of the evolution of the interdependence of Latin America with the rest of the world in recent years, to consider the influence that the concepts of structuralism and dependency have had on this process and, finally, assess future prospects in light of the economic crisis that is affecting the region. The emphasis in this work is placed on Latin America's relationship with the rest of the world rather than on its own interrelationships or economic integration.
