Study on application of hybrid active power filter into harmonic suppression and reactive power compensation

Abstract

In shunt HAPF, the PPF and APF are in series connection and then in parallel with loads; the PPF is mainly used to eliminate the main order harmonic currents and compensate reactive power, and APF is used to improve the compensating performance and flexibility and prevent resonant phenomenon. In ideal situations, through appropriate control, the fundamental voltage of the common point with HAPF connected can mainly drop on PPF, and only harmonic voltage drops on APF, which can greatly reduce the APF capacity and then reduce the cost of whole compensating device, and benefit the extensive application of HAPF. The operating principles of shunt HAPF are detailed in this paper. Based on present study, the APF capacities of common used HAPFs are analyzed, and common used HAPFs with different topologies are compared. Finally, simulation model of certain HAPF is built, and through detailed simulation results, the harmonic suppression and reactive power compensation performance of HAPF is verified.
