In this paper, the concept and system structure of a self-healing smart grid is presented. The self-healing smart grid is controlled by multi-agent system (MAS). The self-healing system has three layers viz. fault identification layer, fault diagnosis layer and corrective action layer. Three case scenarios are taken into consideration; when the producer goes down, when the grid goes down for a certain time during the day and, when the grid goes down during the evening peak. Self-healing characteristic provides a greater degree of automation to implement strategic improvements in the systems' security, reliability and availability.
