Abstract

Core–shell mesoporous silica nanomaterials which contain embedded magnetic nanoparticles have been known only for the past six-seven years but these materials have shown a vast potential for construction of complex nanodevices, which may be applied to perform even several functions in biological systems at the same time. This review article is summarizing research efforts on development of magnetic mesoporous silica nanoparticles and their utilization as building blocks for construction of nanodevices applicable in diagnostics, hyperthermia treatment and stimuli-responsive, targeted, drug delivery.
