Abstract

HLi 2 O 8 P 2 Sc, monoclinic, P12 1 /n1(no.14), a =4.858(1)Å, b =8.199(1) Å, c =7.668(2) Å, b =104.111 Source of materialSingle crystals of Li 2 Sc[(PO 4 )(HPO 4 )] were synthesized under mild hydrothermal conditions from mixtures of 0.500 gS c 2 O 3 (ABCR, 99.9 %) and 2.260 gLiH2PO4 (Aldrich, 99 %) in the molar ratio Li :Sc:P=6:1:6.10mlH2Oaddedand the pH was adjusted to 1byaddition of 1.5 ml HCl (37 %).The reaction mixture was transferred into a10mlTeflon-lined autoclave (filling degree 30 %) and was heated under autogenous pressure at 443 Kfor 14 days.The reaction product was separated by filtration, washed with hot water/acetone and dried in air at 333 K.The product contained colorless prismatic crystals with dimensions ranging from 0.05 to 0.1 mm.The chemical composition of the title compound was confirmed by EDXS and chemical analyses.IR spectra and TG data are consistant with the presence of -OH groups.
