Sub-centimeter length ion-exchanged waveguide lasers in Er/Yb doped phosphate glass

Abstract

We have demonstrated a compact pigtailed laser on combining a 9 mm-long waveguide-amplifier and a 1 cm long fiber-Bragg-grating. It has delivered 2 mW of output power at 1535 nm with a signal-to-noise ratio greater than 53 dB. Concurrently we report a record pump efficiency of 27% for a 43 mm long waveguide laser.
