Abstract

Abstract A simple method for the preparation of dimethylphenyl‐, dimethyl‐p‐chlorophenyl‐ and methyldiphenylsulfonium nitrate is described. By condensing equimolar amounts of mercuric iodide and a phenyl sulfide with methyl iodide a sulfonium triiodomercurate is formed. The triiodomercurate is converted into the nitrate by using an anion exchange resin.
