Abstract

Penalized likelihood estimates are obtained for the hazard function from left truncated and right censored data. The estimate turns out to be a generalized spline function and is piecewise continuous with discontinuity for its derivative only at the failure time points. A visual comparison is also made with the modified product-limit estimator of the survival function.
