Parallel Algorithm for Run Length Encoding

Abstract

This article describes the development of a parallel variation of the "run length encoding" data compression algorithm. It points out the major difficulties encountered with the creation of the parallel algorithm and introduces a model applicable to the creation of parallel variations of other single-pass algorithm.
