Chirp effects in high-order harmonics generated from solid surface

Abstract

We study the effect of pump laser chirp as a method to increase the efficiency of high-order harmonic generation from solid surfaces. Harmonics have been generated using a 40 fs, 800 nm, 1018 Wcm-2 pump laser with Al targets. This study provides evidence that HHG is critically dependent on the frequency component of the femtosecond pump laser.
