Design of a TM<inf>01</inf>-TE<inf>11</inf> circular bend mode converter operating at 3 GHz

Abstract

This paper deals with the mode conversion of the TM 01 mode at 3 GHz to the linearly polarized TE 11 mode for vircator output in a circular waveguide of inner radius 15 cm. The design of the mode converter consists of curvature bend of the waveguide followed by inverse curvature bend. The former was 30.97° bend with 45 cm curvature and latter of 61.5° bend with 42 cm curvature. The design was simulated in Ansoft HFSS and the efficiency of conversion from TM 01 to TE 11 at 3 GHz was found to be over 95% and the overall efficiency was found to be greater than 90% for a bandwidth 500 MHz from 2.75 GHz to 3.25 GHz.
