Abstract

Abstract A unique coordination oligomer derived from bridging 4,4′‐bipyridine (bipy) ligands was synthesized and characterized. Long linear [Ag 4 (bipy) 5 ] 4+ tetracations, shorter [Ag 2 (bipy) 3 ] 2+ dications and 4‐aminobenzoate anions represent the major constituents. When silver nitrate was added to solutions of this salt, polymerization in high yield occurred. (© Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2007)
