(Se 4 ) 2 (Sb 4 F 17 )(SbF 6 ) 3 is formed by reaction of selenium with a large excess of SbF 5 in SO 2 at 363 K. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2 1 / n (Nr. 14) with a = 1124.1(2), b = 1342.7(2), c = 1151.2(3) pm; β = 93.10(2)° and Z = 2. Two crystallographically independent Se 4 2+ units exhibit slight differences of bond distances and angles as well as different numbers of cation-anion interactions. Three regular SbF 6 - octahedra and the mixed valent Sb 4 F 17 - anion, observed previously in only one case, are present.
