X-ray absorption spectroscopy is a powerful spectroscopic tool in analytical nanoscience. Its application to nanoparticles with core shell geometry requires careful consideration, in particular when quantitative evaluations are attempted. The present article shows that well chosen experimental conditions, supported by Monte Carlo simulations of X-ray absorption allow a detailed analysis of experimental data and provide valuable insight into magnetic properties of transition metal and alloy nanoparticles.
