Abstract

A weigh-in-motion device is developed to solve defects in the current method. A vehicle carrying capacitive sensor is adopted as the load weighing component, and an embedded MCU is used as main control unit in this device. The device achieved real-time monitoring and displaying for static loads, transient loads and overloads of vehicle. An alarm is issued if vehicle is overloaded. The information of vehicle loads may be send to inspectors by wireless communication device. The test results show that the measurement error of this device is less than 10% and its precision is better than one class WIM system provided by ASTM E131-02.
