The ammonia removal from aqueous solution by a synthetic ion-exchange resin was invesitigated. Several operating variables of the ion-exchange system, such as the pH, initial ammonia concentration, and temperature, on the exchange capacity were explored. Various ion-exchange isotherms including those of Langmuir, Freundlich, modified Langmuir, and Jossens et al. were employed to represent the experimental isotherm data. A mass-transfer model based on the squared driving force principle was adopted and found to fit well the measured mass-transfer data and the experimental mass-transfer coefficient determined.
