Abstract

An omnidirectional photonic band gap (PBG) is presented in one-dimensional ternary plasma photonic crystal (PPC). In contrast to the omnidirectional PBG coming from a zero- gap or single negative (SNG) (permittivity- or permittivity-negative) gap, this gap originates from a Bragg gap. It has been shown that the ternary PPC, compared with the usual binary photonic crystal (PC), has a superior feature in the enhancement of the high-reflectance range (HRR) and the modulation of the omnidirectional PBG. Omnidirectional PBGs can be utilized as omnidirectional or large incident angle filters or reflectors in microwave devices.
