An experimental 10 MHz low power CMOS analog front-end for pixel detectors

Abstract

The specifications for a true 2-dimensional pixel detector for use in elementary particle physics are discussed. A design of integrated front-end electronics for such a pixel detector with a typical pixel capacitance of 20 fF is described. It comprises a charge amplifier, a latched comparator and a local memory cell. Power dissipation per pixel element is only 30 μW.
