Abstract

Amorphous carbon coated natural graphite (modified graphite, MG) was studied for its thermal and electrochemical performance as a lithium ion anode material. This electrode exhibited a reversible capacity of 94% when compared with the theoretical capacity. MG showed a comparable electrochemical performance when compared with mesocarbon microbeads (MCMB). The morphology was studied using scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Thermal studies were also investigated using Differential Scanning Calorimeter.
