Abstract Single crystals of Nd 2 NiO 4 were prepared by plasma and CO 2 -LASER technique and analysed by X-ray single crystal methods. Nd 2 NiO 4 is the first compound of the orthorhombically dis-torted La 2 CuO 4 -type.
