Degradation of Azo Dyes by Hybrid Ultrasound-Fenton Reagent

Abstract

The degradation of azo dye methyl orange by hybrid ultrasound-Fenton reagent was carried out. The experimental results showed that the ultrasonic irradiation time, the concentration of H 2 O 2 and Fe 2+ of Fenton reagent, the pH value of the solution have an immediate effect on the sonochemical degradation. The conditions of the ultrasound-Fenton reaction and the remarkable sequence of those factors were optimized by an orthogonal experiment. The paper also found that hydroxyl radical pathway was the major reaction mechanism for methyl orange degradation.
