Cell Voltage during the Electrolytic Production of Manganese Dioxide

Abstract

The components of the cell voltage (viz., anodic potential, drop through the deposit, drop through the electrolyte, and cathodic potential) are discussed for a range of operating conditions and the discussion illustrated with a record of pilot cell data obtained over a period of 32 days of operation. Growth of the deposit was found to occur from the deposit/electrolyte interface and electrical transport through the deposit was by semiconduction.
