Superelasticity of a Ti50Ni25CU25shape memory alloy melt spun ribbon

Abstract

The mechanical property of a Tι 50 Nι 25 Cu 15 melt spun ribbon is studied. After annealed at 500°C for 15 minutes, the crystallized ribbon exhibits a transformation hysteresis of 8°C and a superelastic shape recovery of up to 10% strain. No flat stress-plateau is associated with this high superelasticity. During cyclic deformation with strain increment, the shape recovery strain increases and the yield stress decreases, leading to superelasticity with very low hysteresis.
