Synthesis and Characterization of Magnetic γ-Fe<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>/Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> Core-Shell Nanocomposites

Abstract

The γ-Fe 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 core-shell nanocomposites (MCSs) were successfully synthesized by using heterogeneous nucleation method. The results show that a core-shell structures exit in γ-Fe 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 MCSs and that the size of γ-Fe 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 MCSs is in nanoscale. The saturated magnetization and coercivity of γ-Fe 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 MCSs decrease compared with that of γ-Fe 2 O 3 nanoparticles. However, the infrared absorbing ability of γ-Fe 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 MCSs is obvious enhanced and it is expected to become a new series of absorbing materials applied in military field.
