In today’s turbulent health care environment, to cope with financial and other problems, many nonprofit hospitals are joining nonprofit multihospital organizations(MOs). This study attempts to ascertain factors that are related to MO effectiveness. The results based on a nationwide survey of administrators of nonprofit hospitals suggest that administrators can potentially enhance MO effectiveness by focusing on certain factors such as committing hospital resources to MO objectives, closely working with their counterparts on prioritizing the expenditures and aiming toward common long-term objectives, maintaining open communication channels, and developing effective conflict resolution mechanisms.
