Future Combat Systems Case Study for Analysis of System of Systems Approach

Abstract

Abstract The system of systems approach used in the Future Combat Systems (FCS) program is compared to the systems approach of the Army Brigade Combat Team Modernization (ABCTM) and Ground Combat Vehicle (GCV) projects. Several systems engineering tools are applied in order to assess the effectiveness of each method, covering the technical, scheduling and financial perspectives. System complexity and stakeholder relationships were determinant in the transition away from the system of systems approach.
