Electronic Specific Heat of Y(Fe1-xCox)2

Abstract

Low temperature specific heat measurements were made for the pseudobinary Laves phase intermetallic compounds Y (Fe 1- x Co x ) 2 . The concentration dependence of the electronic specific heat coefficient γ, which shows a similar behavior to that of the bcc Fe–Co alloys, is discussed in connection with the magnetic properties of the pseudobinary system. The observed extraordinary high γ value for x =0.9, which is near the critical concentration for the onset of ferromagnetism, is probably due to the spin fluctuations.
