The current task in powertrain control development is to reduce calibration and improve performance of individual powertrain subsystems by the application of modern control techniques. In order to satisfy customer expectations and meet future emission requirements, an integrated approach to powertrain control is essential: an integration of control design and strategy implementation to manage software complexity and achieve benefits promised by modern system theoretic methods.
