Oriented thin films of YBa2Cu4O8prepared by pulsed laser ablation deposition

Abstract

Single phase films of YBa2Cu4O8 showing an onset Tc of 80 K have been grown on MgO and SrTiO3 (100) substrates by pulsed laser ablation deposition with an excimer laser operating at 308 nm. The optimum physical properties were obtained by growth onto a room temperature substrate in 260 mbar of flowing oxygen followed by a post-growth anneal in 1 bar of oxygen at 800 degrees C.
