Electrical Resistivity of Gd(Al1-xCux)2

Abstract

Electrical resistivity ρ of the intermetallic compounds Gd(Al 1- x Cu x ) 2 in the range of x having the C15 crystal structure was measured from room temperature to liquid He temperature. The resistivity contribution ρ mag due to disordered magnetic moments of Gd above the ferromagnetic Curie temperature T c was found to depend very much on x . This fact seems to give a strong evidence that the exchange interaction J between Gd(4f) 7 electrons and conduction electrons is divided into the exchange interactions J i between Gd(4f) 7 electrons and the conduction electron components having different orbital angular momentum i . Also component density of states of conduction electrons is inferred to be likely varying in the series of the present samples.
