Magnetic Properties of (Cr1-xNix)2P Compounds

Abstract

Measurements of magnetization and magnetic susceptibility were made on compounds (Cr 1- x Ni x ) 2 P (0.35 ≤ x ≤1). These compounds have an orthorhombic structure for 0.35 ≤ x ≤0.5 and a hexagonal structure for x ≥0.55. In the orthorhombic phase, the compounds are ferromagnetic for 0.45 < x ≤0.5 and paramagnetic for 0.35 ≤ x ≤0.43. The Curie temperature and the spontaneous magnetization decrease rapidly with decreasins x . The Curie constant is almost independent of x . For the hexagonal structure, the compounds are Pauli paramagnets.
