Abstract

Blends of polyacrylic rubber and carboxylated nitrile rubber (X-NBR) prepared by three different techniques, in different blend ratios have been studied. The processiblity of the polyacrylic rubber is improved by blending with XNBR. Improvement in the physical properties is also observed. Blend properties largely depend on the blend ratio and on the blending technique. IR spectra reveal that interchain crosslinking occurs between polyacrylic rubber and XNBR on heating. The properties of the blends were improved on preheating the blends, due to the interchain crosslinking reaction. Also, this delays the degradation of the blends at high temperature.
