Abstract

Mucho se sabe de la valentía de estos cimarrones en su lucha contra la esclavitud, pero una vez más, utilizando el archivo inquisitorial, la autora puede demostrar cómo los protagonistas de esa lucha armada vivieron como cualquier ser humano en condiciones de paz. Al ahondar en el desarrollo de la vida social de sus habitantes, se da cuenta del papel que este asentamiento jugó para la vida de esclavos huidos o ex esclavos que llegaron a vivir con ellos; éstos eran afrodescendientes que se asentaban definitivamente hasta que la Inquisición los descubría, no tanto por ser un esclavo huido sino por estar casado dos veces.San Lorenzo Cerralvo, Town of Free Blacks. Seventeenth Century While much is known about the bravery of these maroons in their fight against slavery, by utilizing the inquisition archives, the author shows how the protagonists of that armed struggle lived during times of peace. By deepening our understanding of the development of the social life of its inhabitants, we realize the role that this settlement played for escaped slaves or former slaves that came to live with them. These were African descendants who had successfully settled until the inquisition discovered them, not so much for being fugitive slaves but for being married two times.
