Ultra wideband ranging system using improved chirp waveform

Abstract

In this paper we propose a novel chirp signal for UWB radar systems instead of the conventional Gaussian monocycle. In the proposed scheme, the transmitted signal consists of a (linear) combination of chirp signals with the same time duration, but different frequency bands. The proposed technique can suppress the peak power and to accomplish the same range resolution of the conventional UWB radars. Moreover, the proposed system can achieve single user ranging error performance.
