Transducers using PVDF (poly(vinylidene fluoride)) films have certain advantages over conventional ceramic transducers. The broad frequency range allows a high resolution of the measured distance and a small minimum detection range. High reliability is achieved by microcomputer signal processing. Adaptation of acoustic parameters such as sound beam pattern and operating frequency to special measuring problems is effected by variation of geometrical transducer characteristics. Multielement transducers were also created for electronically controlled variation of sound beam patterns.< >
