Diferenciales salariales entre los trabajadores del sector público y del sector privado en Colombia en 1997

Abstract

This paper uses the Roy model to measure the size of the wage differential between the workers of the public and private sector in Columbia in 1997. The use of this model is important since it eliminates the self-selection bias of the coefficients of the Mincer equations that appears when these equations are estimated separately for both sectors. It is also useful to have a reliable measure of the wage a worker will have if he would have worked in a different sector. The wage differential is measured with the traditional Oaxaca decomposition and with an additional measure of the average wage estimated differential. The paper concludes that, except for the workers with some level of graduate studies the wages in the jmhlic sector are higher than those in the private sector.
