Analysis of unslotted frequency-hopped packet radio networks with star topology

Abstract

This paper is concerned with the performance analysis of unslotted frequency-hopped spread-spectrum packet radio networks, with star topology and imperfect spreading codes. Two types of preambles are investigated; namely the PN spread-spectrum preamble and the non-spread preamble. Joint probability generating functions for the so called effective multiple-access interference are determined for both cases. Closed form expressions for packet successful probability and throughput are derived for packets with Reed Solomon forward error control coding. Numerical results indicate that error control coding can improve the throughput at moderate to high traffic levels only.
