Abstract

For the purpose of throwing light on the phenomenon of the propeller-nacelle whirl flutter, the most simple model of the propeller-nacelle system is treated analytically, while the aerodynamic forces are treated as exactly as possible by the non-steady transonic aerodynamic theory. The mechanism of the whirl flutter is made clear, and several formulae are obtained which decide the lower limit of the natural frequency of the nacelle preventing the propeller nacelle system from whirl flutter.
