"La Arquitectura desde la Miniatura", una aproximación desde la Baja Edad Media castellana

Abstract

This study discusses the possibility of applying the twelve different values or categories that Julian Gallego highlighted to explain the significant presence of Architecture in Painting, to the thirteenth century miniatures of the Cantigas by Alphonse X. These values were expounded in his admission speech to the Real Academia de las Bellas Artes de San Fernando (Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando) in 1988, drawing from sources of the Modern Age as well as important precedents from the late Middle Ages, later than the ltalian Trecento. By identifying most of these values within specific examples in the Alphonsine codex, the modernity of some ofthe Castillian scriptorium's approaches becomes evident.
