VIEWPOINT ENTROPY-DRIVEN SIMPLIFICATION METHOD FOR TEXTURED TRIANGLE MESHES

Abstract

This paper proposes a viewpoint-driven simplification method for triangle meshes taking textures into account. Textures are very important in the final aspect of the simplified models. This method considers the texture shape in the error metric. A well-know mathematical concept, such as entropy, is used in the error metric. Therefore, the goal of this method is to produce simplifications that preserve better textures than methods that do not consider them, avoiding great distortions applying the textures.
